Avista Hospital's GI Experts

Our Team of GI Experts

Our gastroenterologists—Dr. Scott Hallgren, FACP, and Dr. Ariana Greenwood—have advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases and conditions. Staffed by doctors and nurses specially trained in endoscopic procedures, the Lab makes possible cutting edge digestive care and prevention of cancer.

What is a Gastroenterologist?

A gastroenterologist is a physician with dedicated training and experience in the management of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. They typically have up to six years of specialized training beyond medical school.

A gastroenterologist diagnoses and treats symptoms like: acid reflux, abdominal pain, bloating, bloody stools or diarrhea, chest pain (where cardiac problems are not a concern), consistent nausea and vomiting, rectal bleeding, upper right quadrant pain, inability to eat, yellowing of skin.

Some gastroenterologists receive special recognition from national societies for their exceptional achievements in the field. The American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians designate these physicians as "Fellows"—and these physicians typically carry the initials FACG and FACP after their name when it appears in print.
